The streaming giant has announced that Robert Downey Jr. will be executive producer on Sweet Tooth, a fantasy series based on the DC Comics Vertigo limited series comic Sweet Tooth. Downey will be producing via his Team Downey banner.
The family-friendly series will tell of Gus, a part deer / part boy hybrid who leaves his home in the forest to find the outside world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself in search of answers about this new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins.
Set to play Gus is Christian Convery, whose credits include Beautiful Boy and Playing With Fire. The cast also includes Nonso Anozie (The Laundromat, Game of Thrones), Adeel Akhtar (Les Misérables [TV series], The Big Sick) and Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), with James Brolin (Life in Pieces, Westworld) on board as the voice of the narrator.
Eight one-hour episodes are lined up for the show, which comes from executive producers/writers/co-showrunners Jim Mickle (Hap and Leonard, In the Shadow of the Moon) and Beth Schwartz (Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow).
