Starz has just dropped the official trailer for Sweetpea, a new six-part series set to premiere in October 2024 in the U.S. and Canada. The show stars Ella Purnell, who you might know from Yellowjackets and Fallout.
Sweetpea tells the story of Rhiannon Lewis, played by Purnell. Rhiannon is someone who often goes unnoticed. She’s overlooked for promotions at work, stuck with a guy who won’t commit, and dealing with her dad’s serious illness. Everything seems to pile up until she reaches a deadly breaking point. So…. cue that kill list?!
According to the official synopsis: “Rhiannon is pushed over the edge and loses control. Suddenly the wallflower is gone, and in its place is a young woman capable of anything… Rhiannon’s life transforms as she steps into a new, intoxicating power, but can she keep her killer secret?”
The cast also includes Nicôle Lecky (Sense8), Jon Pointing (Big Boys), Calam Lynch (Bridgerton), Leah Harvey (Foundation), Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso), and Dustin Demri-Burns (Slow Horses). Besides starring in the show, Ella Purnell is also an executive producer.
In a statement, Purnell shared her excitement: “I truly cannot wait for the world to meet Sweetpea! I’ve loved exploring this incredibly complex character, as well as working alongside our dynamic cast and powerhouses Ella Jones, Kristie Swain, and Patrick Walters. This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career so far.”
Based on 2017 book of the same name by CJ Skuse, the series was adapted for television by Kirstie Swain (Run, Pure), who also serves as an executive producer. It’s directed by Ella Jones (The Baby, Back To Life), who holds an executive producer role as well. The show is a collaboration between See-Saw Films, fanboy, and Sky Studios.
Sweetpea premieres on Stars in the U.S. and Canada on October 10th. Release date for Australia to be announced.
