At Disney’s D23 Expo Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof announced that they would be commencing work on a new project, Tomorrowland. Their presentation left the audience slightly confused, as they brought out strange items from a box, including a magazine, a fake photo of Walt Disney with Amelia Earhart and an animated clip about the dangers of technology.
Thankfully, Disney has released a synopsis for the upcoming film along with an announcement that principal photography has began in Vancouver.
Here’s the synopsis:
Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as ‘Tomorrowland’.
Yeah, it’s still a little vague, but at least we now have a clearer picture of what to expect. The project has been gathering attention, and the great cast definitely adds interest. The film will star George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson.
Bird will direct and produce from a screenplay he co-wrote with Lindelof (also a producer).
Tomorrowland will open in theaters Dec. 12, 2014.
