‘Tag’ Trailer: Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jon Hamm & More Play an Epic Game

The first trailer has arrived for Tag, the upcoming comedy starring Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress and Jeremy Runner, among others.

The film follows five friends who have been playing an epic, elongated game of tag… for 30 years. When the undefeated member of the group (Renner) decides he’s going to stop playing, the group decides it’s about time to make him “it”.

The crazy thing: It’s based on a true story. Seriously, you can read the entire fun Wall Street Journal article the film is based on right HERE.

This marks the first feature for short film and television helmer Jeff Tomsic, whose many credits include episodes of Broad City. The screenplay adaptation comes from Rob McKittrick (Waiting) and Mark Steilen (Mozart in the Jungle).

It could be a winning film, the type of character-driven comedy that often stars Jason Bateman and manages to deliver that little bit extra by injecting some heart among the mayhem. There’s a great cast of actresses on board as well, including Annabelle Wallis, Rashida Jones, Isla Fisher and Leslie Bibb.

Tag will be running into Aussie cinemas on June 14 and hits the U.S. on June 15.

Official synopsis for Tag:

For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry: “You’re It!”

This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready.

Based on a true story, the New Line Cinema comedy “Tag” shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing. “
