A big new trailer has been unveiled for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, offering a good amount of new footage from the upcoming sequel.
We catch up with the turtles, April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and newcomer Casey Jones (Stephen Amell), who all have to team up when Shredder (Brian Tee) escapes custody. Of course, it’s not just Shredder who’s on board as antagonist; there’s also Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams), Rocksteady (Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly) and a certain out-of-this-world villain fans may be familiar with, Krang. Oh, and there’s also the matter of that purple ooze, which could turn our turtles into humans.
The sequel looks to be aiming for a bigger-is-better approach, with some pretty big sequences shown off in the new trailer below. Of course, expensive set pieces don’t always point to a successful outing. And although the 2014 film managed to top $US493 million at the worldwide box office, it didn’t exactly ace it with critics and audiences (the film stands with a 21% score on Rotten Tomatoes). Fingers crossed we get a TMNT film that goes for fun without resorting to a dull script and mind-numbingly childish antics.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, also starring William Fichtner, Tyler Perry, Laura Linney and Alessandra Ambrosio, hits the U.S. on June 3 and Australia on June 9.
Synopsis for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows:
Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After supervillain Shredder escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.
