The CW has found a way to keep The 100 going – in a way.
Get ready for a prequel series to the hit post-apocalyptic science fiction drama series. The CW will be crafting a backdoor pilot in The 100‘s seventh and final season. A backdoor pilot, for those wondering, is used in a show to introduce an upcoming show’s characters and/or plot, as opposed to having that series start off fresh with its own introductory pilot.
The potential prequel series will be set 97 years before the events of The 100, as a nuclear apocalypse unfolds and annihilates the majority of Earth’s population. We’ll be following a group of survivors on Earth as they learn to adjust and survive in a dangerous new world that’s forming, while fighting to create a new and better society from the ashes of what came before.
Based loosely on the novel series of the same name by Kass Morgan, The 100 follows a group of post-apocalyptic survivors that return to Earth from a space habitat, 97 years after the Earth was hit with a nuclear apocalypse. Aussie actress Eliza Taylor leads the cast, which also includes Thomas McDonell, Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropoulos, Devon Bostick, and Christopher Larkin, among many others.
The prequel will come from The 100 creator Jason Rothenberg, who’s on board to both write and executive produce.
Some of CW’s biggest shows are coming to an end. Apart from The 100 ending with season seven, Arrow is about to end with season eight and Supernatural will be closing after an impressively long run of fifteen seasons.
