The first trailer for The 5th Wave has dropped, giving us our first look at the upcoming sci-fi film starring Chloë Grace Moretz.
Based on the novel by Rick Yancey, The 5th Wave takes place in a world that has been invaded by aliens. As we learn in the trailer, the takeover has come to fruition through a series of wave attacks, including the cutting of Earth’s electricity and the spread of an airborne virus. Now, the aliens are on Earth, living among survivors in human form.
While we’re certainly getting a little tired with the non-stop amount of young adult novels getting the big-screen treatment, The 5th Wave looks to be packing in enough epic disaster moments and sci-fi leanings to have us interested. Apart from the usually-strong Moretz, the cast includes Liev Schreiber, Maria Bello, Maika Monroe and Ron Livingston.
It’s early days yet, and there’s bound to be many more trailers, so we’ll keep our expectations in check for now.
The 5th Wave, which sees J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) directing from a screenplay by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Susannah Grant (Pocahontas, Erin Brockovich, The Soloist), will be hitting Australia on January 14, 2016, and the U.S. on January 15, 2016.
