Warner Bros. is starting to make moves on a sequel to the 2016 thriller The Accountant.

Ben Affleck has entered to talks to reprise his role as Chris Wolff, a math savant with autism who works as an accountant for criminal organisations. Both director Gavin O’Connor, whose credits also include Pride and Glory and Warrior, and screenwriter Bill Dubuque (The Judge) are also circling a return.

Deadline broke the news, reporting that it’s early days on the project and the deals are still being worked out. The plot is also being ironed out at the moment; there’s a strong chance Jon Bernthal’s character will be a key factor in the narrative.

The first film saw Bernthal playing a hitman named Brax. Spoiler: It was revealed towards the end of the film that Brax was in fact Chris’ brother.

The Accountant, which also starred Anna Kendrick, J. K. Simmons, and John Lithgow, received mixed reviews upon release but did pretty well financially. The film earned $US155.1 million worldwide from a budget of $US44 million, paving the way for a potential follow-up. We’ll keep you informed.
