New ‘The Accountant 2’ Trailer: Sequel Reunites Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal for Brotherly Mayhem

Take a look above at the second official trailer for The Accountant 2, the follow-up to the 2016 sleeper hit. And if the marketing is anything to by, it looks like we’re in for are looser, funnier, and more action-packed sequel.

Ben Affleck returns as Christian Wolff, the maths-genius assassin who’s once again pulled into a deadly conspiracy—this time after a cryptic message is left behind following the murder of an old acquaintance (J.K. Simmons, reprising his role… briefly). To help solve the case, Christian turns to the one person he might trust less than the killers after him: his estranged brother Brax, played by Jon Bernthal.

“So, it’s been a minute?” Brax says when the siblings reunite. And it’s clear that we’re in for plenty of bickering as these very different badasses attempt to work together. But, of course, they still have each other’s backs – and they still know each other all too well. The pair end up in a bar fight—naturally—where Christian explains: “My brother wasn’t having a good time tonight, but now he will.” Cue two guys being thrown through a window.

“It does feel great to continue the story of The Accountant,” Affleck said from the stage at CinemaCon this year. “I’m thrilled to be playing this part again with this great cast.” And it’s not just the brother kicking ass. Daniella Pineda, who joins the cast as Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina, said: “I do have some pretty brutal fight scenes that will look awesome on your screens.”

When Bernthal said that Christian needs Brax, Affleck quickly responded: “I don’t know that Christian needs Brax so much… It’s not necessary. It’s useful.” Added Bernthal: “A wolf has to have his pack.”

Directed once again by Gavin O’Connor and penned by returning screenwriter Bill Dubuque, The Accountant 2 hits Australian cinemas on April 24 and opens in the U.S. on April 25.
