One for the canine lovers here.

Take a look at the trailer 20th Century Fox has released for The Art of Racing in the Rain, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Garth Stein. The plot follows the life of dog Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner), as he navigates life with his aspiring Formula One racer owner, Denny (Milo Ventimiglia), and his loving family.

It looks to be firmly in the vein of Marley and Me, and this writer is already feeling a lump in his throat at the thought of what could be on offer here. These dog films always get me. It could be just the right material for director Simon Curtis, who’s very susceptible to driving home obvious emotion – for better or worse. The screenplay comes from Mark Bomback, known for War for the Planet of the Apes and The Wolverine.

The Art of Racing in the Rain, also starring Amanda Seyfried, Ryan Kiera Armstrong and Gary Cole, hits the US on August 9 and arrives in Australia on September 26.
