Production is officially underway on Netflix and Walden Media’s The Baby-Sitters Club, a contemporary live-action series adaptation of the popular Scholastic children’s book series.
Alicia Silverstone (Clueless, American Woman) and Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains) have been cast in the series, which will follow the friendship and babysitting adventures of five best friends -Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer – in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. Silverstone is on board to play Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, mother of Kristy Thomas and love interest of Watson Brewer (Feuerstein).
Behind this one is executive producer Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Moneyball). GLOW writer and co-producer Rachel Shukert is to serve as showrunner, with Lucy Kitada and Naia Cucukov attached as executive producers and Lucia Aniello (Broad City) on board as both director and executive producer. Author Ann M. Martin is also on the producing team.
There is a 10-episode order for the first season, which is currently shooting in Vancouver.
The Baby-Sitters Club books series is one of the most successful children’s series in publishing history, with 180 million copies in print to date and over 200 books licensed in over 20 territories.
