Paramount Pictures has dropped the first trailer for The Big Short, an upcoming true-story drama boasting a cast that includes Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling.
Based on the book by Moneyball author Michael Lewis, The Big Short tells the true of a group of guys who decided to make some moves when they saw what everyone else refused to: the impending collapse of the global economy.
The Big Short is a bit of a surprise entry in this year’s Oscar race, getting moved ahead after the studio saw an almost-finished cut of the film. The film marks a somewhat new direction for director Adam McKay, who’s been at the helm of successful comedies such as Anchorman and Step Brothers.
With star power like this, although there’s one too many bad hair days going on for our liking, McKay showing off his dramatic chops, and a fascinating true story, it’s highly possible we’ll be seeing The Big Short receiving a few nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The Big Short, also starring Karen Gillan, Marisa Tomei, Selena Gomez and Melissa Leo, will be getting a limited U.S. release on December 11 before its wide domestic release on December 25.
