A big new trailer has dropped for The Boss Baby, the upcoming CG-animated picture featuring Alec Baldwin as the voice of a no-nonsense talking infant.

The plot tells of a 7-year-old boy who gets more than he bargained for when his parents arrive home with a new baby. He soon finds that his little brother is anything but normal; he’s actually an employee from Babycorp on a mission to find why “there’s not enough love to go around”. By the looks of that pie chart, it seems those dastardly puppies may be hogging up a little too much of the attention. Marriage? Not so much.

This looks like fun. Baldwin’s an inspired choice for this character and the animation is colourful and energetic. It’s early days yet, and the humour is certainly quite simple (fat babies! fart jokes!), but juding from the trailer below, DreamWorks Animation could have another hit on their hands. Oh, and that final nod to Baldwin’s turn in Glengarry Glen Ross is great.

The Boss Baby, also featuring voice work from Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, and Lisa Kudrow, will arrive in Australia on March 23 and opens in the US on March 31.

Synopsis for The Boss Baby:

DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby. He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks’ THE BOSS BABY. THE BOSS BABY is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim. With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks’ THE BOSS BABY is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages.
