The official trailer has arrived for The Carpenter’s Son, with Nicolas Cage getting biblical as Joseph in a supernatural showdown that pits a family against the Devil. Watch the trailer above and read on for the essentials.
Roman-era Egypt, one small settlement, and a family trying to keep their heads down: Joseph (Cage), Mary (FKA twigs, seen recently in 2024’s The Crow), and their teenage son, Jesus (Noah Jupe, A Quiet Place). A strange child (Isla Johnston, Invasion) starts whispering in the boy’s ear, pulling him toward something forbidden. “Who are you?” Jesus asks. The response: “You know who I am.” As the official synopsis puts it, “the child’s real name: Satan.”
More on Screen Realm:
The trailer leans into harsher horror tones—nightmarish imagery and stark visions—and frames Joseph as a father doing everything he can to protect his son, haunted by what feels like an inevitable calling. “He bears a power he cannot understand,” Joseph says in the trailer. “A power I cannot contain.”
Writer-director Lotfy Nathan—making his second narrative feature after the under-distributed 2022 film Harka—draws on his Coptic Christian background to stage this as spiritual warfare. Cage, whose recent credits include Longlegs and The Surfer, also serves as a producer and continues to make unpredictable choices. This looks bold, weird, and all-in on its premise.
The Carpenter’s Son will open in U.S. cinemas on November 14.
