The first trailer has dropped for The Circle, the upcoming thriller starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.

Based on the international best-seller by Dave Eggers, The Cirlce finds Watson playing a young woman who joins the world’s largest tech and social media company. The more she learns about what the company does and gets to know company founder Eamon Bailey (Hanks), the more troubling discoveries she makes.

This is the latest feature for director James Ponsoldt, who is also on board as screenwriter. It certainly marks a change of pace from the filmmaker’s dramas, which include Smashed, The Spectacular Now and The End of the Tour, and it looks pretty intriguing thus far.

Our first look at the film doesn’t reveal too much plot, but it does hint at some of the uneasy developments Watson’s character will run into at this mysterious company. It’s also good to see Hanks in a role that doesn’t seem like that nice guy persona he can tap into so easily. And with John Boyega and Karen Gillan attached as supporting cast members, our interest is well and truly piqued.

The Circle will open in the US on April 28 and arrives in Australia on May 25, 2017.
