The teaser trailer has arrived for The Comey Rule, the potential pot-stirrer of a mini-series starring Jeff Daniels as former FBI Director James Comey and Brendan Gleeson as Donald Trump.
The series is based on Comey’s autobiography, the bestselling A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies & Leadership, as well as over a year’s worth of interviews, and tells of the tumultuous period between Comey and Trump during the election and the first few months of his presidency. There’s plenty of juicy material for the show to tackle, such as the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and its impact on Election Night, and Comey’s inquiry into the claims of Trump-Russia connections. Comey’s tempestuous with Trump came to an end in May 2017, when the President fired him.
We’ll see whether audiences are keen to dig further into the presidency and political mayhem that’s taken up so much of the news and social media, but it could be one to watch, particularly with the amount of talent bringing this two-part, four-hour event series to life.
It was written for the screen and directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Billy Ray (Captain Phillips, Shattered Glass), with a cast that includes, among many others, Holly Hunter (The Piano) as former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates; Michael Kelly (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) as former FBI Director Andrew McCabe; Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty) as Patrice Comey; Scoot McNairy (Halt and Catch Fire) as former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein; and Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul) as former National Intelligence Director James Clapper.
The Comey Rule will be released on consecutive nights, September 27th and 28th, on Stan in Australia and Showtime in the US.
Synopsis for The Comey Rule:
Based on Comey’s No. 1 New York Times bestselling book A Higher Loyalty and more than a year of additional interviews with a number of key principals, THE COMEY RULE is an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath, which divided a nation. THE COMEY RULE is not a biopic of one man, but is instead the story of two powerful figures, Comey and Trump, whose strikingly different personalities, ethics and loyalties put them on a collision course.
