‘Vikings’ Actress Katheryn Winnick Joins ‘The Dark Tower’

The long-gestating big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has just added actress Katheryn Winnick.

Perhaps best known for playing Lagertha on History Channel series Vikings, Winnick is said to be joining the growing cast of the Sony and MRC’s adaptation. Variety broke the news, but didn’t shed any light as to which character Winnick could be playing.

Winnick joins leads Idris Elba, who’s playing The Gunslinger, and Matthew McConaughey, who’s on board as the mysterious Man in Black. Also on board is Fran Kranz as Pimli, Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre, and Abby Lee as Tiran.

Production on the fantasy feature is currently underway, with Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) directing from a screenplay by he wrote alongside Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen and Jeff Pinkner.

The Dark Tower is scheduled for U.S. release on February 17, 2017.
