‘The Darkness’ Trailer: Kevin Bacon Leads Latest from ‘Wolf Creek’ Director Greg McLean

the darkness

Take a look at the first trailer released for The Darkness, the upcoming horror film from Australian director Greg McLean (Wolf Creek).

Featuring a cast led by Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell, The Darkness tells of what goes down after a family returns home from a visit to the Grand Canyon. You see, young Michael (David Mazouz) looks to have brought home a certain supernatural force, one that’s not exactly friendly.

There’s certainly an air of familiarity here, even if the first trailer does (thankfully and hopefully) seem to be holding back most of the film’s scares. Whether or not the film’s creepy moments work a treat remains to be seen, but the film should at the very least benefit from the inclusion of Bacon and Mitchell.

Apart from The Darkness, McLean, who also directed Rogue and Wolf Creek 2, is likely have a second film released this year. He’s at the helm of The Belko Experiment, a film that tells of 83 American expatriates who find themselves trapped in their Brazilian workplace. Everything hits the fan when a voice over the speaker system forces them to take on a series of murderous moral decisions. It certainly sounds interesting, and it should, Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director James Gunn is behind that script.

The Darkness, which marks the first horror film from Blumhouse’s small-budget label BH Tilt, will hit the U.S. on May 13.
