‘The Duel’ Trailer: Liam Hemsworth vs Woody Harrelson in a Western

The first trailer has been released for The Duel, an upcoming western-thriller starring Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson.

The film sees Hemsworth playing a Texas Ranger sent to a small town to investigate a preacher (Harrelson) who may be responsible for a series of murders. Of course, it doesn’t take long for everything to hit the fan.

The trailer below shows off a competently made if overly familiar thriller, but it could certainly benefit from what looks like a fun performance by Harrelson. Hemswoth hasn’t really had strong, dramatic roles, and we’re not too sure this will be one either. That’s not to suggest his career is hurting; after all, Independence Day: Resurgence is on the way.

Aussie actor and director Kieran Darcy-Smith is behind this one, marking his sophomore directorial feature after 2012’s Wish You Were Here. Triple 9 scribe Matt Cook has penned the screenplay.

The Duel, also starring Emory Cohen, William Hurt, and Alice Braga, will hit U.S. cinemas and On Demand on June 24.
