The official teaser trailer has arrived for The End of Oak Street, a sci-fi survival film starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. Watch the teaser above, then read on for what this mysterious first look is teasing ahead of its August cinema release.
A Suburban Mystery With Dinosaurs in the Mix
The teaser opens on a quiet corridor. Rain lashes outside, a clock ticks… then lightning strikes. The ticking stops. The music shifts. Something’s off.

“Mum, what’s happening to us?” one of the Platt children asks as quick flashes start to roll in. Hathaway’s character turns to her family, including her husband, played by McGregor, and says, “I think our house… our neighbourhood… our whole street… has moved.”
Then comes the hook. Their street — seemingly the entire neighbourhood — appears to have been sliced away and dropped into a dense, prehistoric landscape.
Cut to black. McGregor yells, “Oh my God, run!”
Then comes the teaser’s money shot: a pan from inside the house, looking out as the kids sprint past the windows… chased by a dinosaur.
David Robert Mitchell Heads Behind the Camera
The film is written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, whose previous credits include the 2014 horror film It Follows and the 2018 surrealist neo-noir Under the Silver Lake. This is a much bigger canvas for the filmmaker, but the teaser still carries a familiar sense of unease and off-kilter suburbia.
Could This Be a Cloverfield Movie?
Yes, there’s already speculation that The End of Oak Street could be tied to the wider Cloverfield universe. A big reason for that is J.J. Abrams’ involvement through his Bad Robot banner, but theorists have a bit more than that to go on.
The Cloverfield films have a history of secrecy, shifting titles, and repurposed concepts, with projects like 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox eventually becoming part of the same loose universe. That has left fans trained to look twice whenever Bad Robot rolls out a mysterious high-concept genre project.
There are also a few overlaps that have people raising an eyebrow: a mysterious cosmic event, ordinary people thrown into a bizarre survival scenario, and a story built around a big unknown threat. Even the film’s original working title, Flowervale Street, has drawn comparisons to 10 Cloverfield Lane.
The cosmic-event angle is also drawing a lot of scrutiny here. The Cloverfield Paradox leaned into the idea of reality being disrupted in ways that could unleash chaos across dimensions, and The End of Oak Street is likewise built around a neighbourhood being ripped out of suburbia and dumped somewhere unknown. That doesn’t prove anything, of course, but it is enough to keep the theory alive.
That said, it’s all just speculation for now. But with Warner Bros. is keeping things tightly under wraps, fans will be keeping a close eye on all the marketing that’s dropped from hear until the film’s August release.

The End of Oak Street opens in Australian cinemas on August 13 and in U.S. cinemas on August 14.
