Denzel Washington stars in his first-ever sequel with The Equalizer 2, which finds the two-time Oscar winner reprising his role as ass-kicking former agent Robert McCall.
The first trailer has arrived for the action-thriller, showing off a suitably brutal-looking sequel with enough carnage to keep its target audience happy. The plot finds McCall back doing what he does best when Melissa Leo’s character Susan Plumber, who we met in the first film, is killed. Cue all manner of ass-whoopin’.
This marks Washington’s fourth film with director Antoine Fuqua following Training Day, the first Equalizer film, and 2016’s The Magnificent Seven. The screenplay comes from Richard Wenk, who penned the first film and whose credits include other one-man army pics The Mechanic and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
The Equalizer 2, also starring Pedro Pascal, Bill Pullman and Jonathan Scarfe, will be arriving in Australia on July 19 and hitting US cinemas on July 20.
Denzel Washington returns to one of his signature roles in the first sequel of his career. Robert McCall serves an unflinching justice for the exploited and oppressed – but how far will he go when that is someone he loves?
