The first trailer has been released for The Family Fang, the sophomore feature directorial effort from Jason Bateman following his 2013 dramedy Bad Words.
Based on the bestselling novel by Kevin Wilson, The Family Fang tells the story of siblings, Baxter (Bateman) and Annie (Nicole Kidman), that still have issues from their upbringing. When their parents (Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett), performance artists who incorporated their children in elaborate hoaxes, suddenly go missing, Baxter and Annie go in search.
Bateman’s Bad Words wasn’t a completely masterful picture, but it was certainly a strong effort, showing off Bateman’s eye, ability to gather decent performances and to balance drama with doses of dry humour. The Family Fang seems like just the right type of odd dramedy for Bateman to tackle for his follow-up, and there’s a great cast to boot. We’re interested.
The Family Fang will open in limited U.S. release on April 29 before opening wide and hitting On Demand on May 6.
