‘The Good Daughter’ Trailer: Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy Face a Violent Family Past in Peacock Series

Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy play estranged sisters dragged back towards a violent past in the official teaser trailer for Peacock‘s The Good Daughter, a six-episode crime thriller based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling novel. Watch the trailer above and get the details below.

A Family Shattered by Violence

Fahy plays Charlotte “Charlie” Quinn, while Byrne is her older sister, Samantha. Decades earlier, the two survived a brutal attack on their family home that killed their mother, Harriet “Gamma” Quinn (Olivia Williams), and left Samantha with lasting physical injuries.

The trailer jumps between that horrific night and the women they have become, and the distance between them is immediately apparent. When Samantha returns home at the request of their father, Charlie doesn’t exactly greet her with open arms: “We haven’t seen each other in over 10 years.”

Their father is Rusty Quinn, played by Brendan Gleeson. A colourful defence attorney, Rusty remained in Pikeville while his daughters took very different paths. Charlie followed him into criminal defence and stayed close to home. Samantha left, became a patent lawyer and built a life elsewhere.

Then another violent crime rocks Pikeville, with Charlie among the first people at the scene. As the new case takes hold, old resentments and long-buried questions begin forcing their way back into the Quinn family’s lives.

The original 2017 novel is rooted in similarly brutal territory, but Slaughter has said the aftermath matters more to her than simply piling on crimes. Speaking with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she explained: “How the characters react is much more the focus than the actual crimes.”

Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy Lead the Family Drama

Byrne arrives following acclaimed work across Damages, Physical and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, while Fahy earned an Emmy nomination for The White Lotus before moving into mystery-driven projects including The Perfect Couple and Sirens.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Fahy said she hopes viewers ultimately find something hopeful beneath the darkness: “What people take from watching The Good Daughter is just that they have hope and that they are encouraged to walk toward their trauma.”

Byrne also serves as an executive producer. Fahy joined the series after Jessica Biel, who was originally attached to star and executive produce when Peacock ordered the project in 2024, departed.

Karin Slaughter Adapted Her Own Bestseller

Fans of the novel have another reason to pay attention: Slaughter wrote all six episodes and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour while the series was in production, Slaughter said: “I’ve written all the scripts and I’ve hewed very closely to the book and the actors are amazing.”

The bestselling author is also behind the hugely successful Will Trent novels and wrote Pieces of Her, which Netflix previously adapted into a limited series starring Toni Collette.

Slaughter’s move into television happened remarkably fast. She told Vanity Fair that, after initially resisting producer Bruna Papandrea’s suggestion that she write for the screen, she disappeared into a two-to-three-week writing sprint and emerged with six scripts.

All six episodes are directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Steph Green, whose credits include The Americans, Watchmen and We Were the Lucky Ones. Green and the production also consulted organisations including Brady and RAINN while approaching the story’s depictions of gun violence, trauma and sexual assault.

Who Else Is in The Good Daughter Cast?

Alongside Byrne, Fahy and Gleeson, the cast includes Olivia Williams as Harriet “Gamma” Quinn, Michael Dorman as Ben, Harper Steele as Lenore, Paula Malcomson as Judith and Jake McDorman as Mason “Huck” Huckabee.

Audrey Grace Marshall plays the younger Samantha, while Drew Ann Cheek portrays young Charlie in the flashbacks to the night that changed the family.

When Is The Good Daughter Released?

All six episodes of The Good Daughter will premiere on Peacock in the U.S. on November 12 and Stan in Australia on November 13, 2026.
