Check out the first trailer to arrive for drama-thriller The Good Liar, starring Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren.

The film follows Roy Courtnay (McKellen), a con artist who targets wealthy widow Betty McLeish (Mirren). Things get complicated when he finds himself falling for her, and the walls begin closing in around him.

It’s a well-crafted, tense trailer, boding well for the latest film from director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Beauty and the Beast), who previously directed McKellen in Gods and Monsters and Mr. Holmes. A McKellen and Mirren two-hander is certainly enticing, and this plot should allow for some fascinatingly dark turns. Fingers crossed.

The Good Liar, also starring Russell Tovey and Jim Carter, will be in US cinemas on November 15 and arrives in Australia on January 23, 2020.

Official synopsis for The Good Liar:
