An icky new poster has arrived for The Grudge, a reboot of the horror franchise that the US tackled in 2004.
The reboot stars Andrea Riseborough, Betty Gilpin, Demián Bechir, Lin Shaye, Australia’s Jacki Weaver, William Sadler, and John Cho, the latter of whom is in for pretty bad shower in this poster. “That’s my head!” the actor posted on social media with the poster.
Here’s the poster…
Yes, it’s a clear nod to that creepy moment in the ’04 film that had Sarah Michelle Gellar in the shower, suddenly feeling a little something in her hair…
The reboot is being described as “a twisted new take” on the Japanese horror film Ju-On: The Grudge, which was released back in 2002. The US remake followed 2 years later, released during that period of Japanese-inspired horror remakes that were kicked off following the success of 1998’s Ringu.
The new film follows a detective and a young mother as they look into why a woman murdered her own family. The home of the murders has been cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death.
The first trailer, by the way, is set to arrive on Monday in the US – so probably Monday night or Tuesday for us in Australia. Stay tuned for that.
Directed and written by Nicolas Pesce (Piercing, Eyes of My Mother) and produced by Sam Raimi (who also produced the first remake), The Grudge is scheduled for US release on January 3 and Australian release on January 20, 2020.
