The fight against Gilead is coming to a head. Hulu has dropped the official trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season six, offering a glimpse at what’s being billed as the final, explosive chapter in June Osborne’s story. The long-promised revolution is no longer on the horizon—it’s here. Trailer above and info below.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Plot: June’s Final Fight Begins
It’s been three years since we last saw June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), but season six wastes no time diving back into chaos. The new trailer finds June heading straight into enemy territory—Gilead—alongside Luke (O-T Fagbenle). Their mission? Unclear. Their odds? Not great. “Two lunatics heading into Gilead on a wing and a prayer,” Luke says. And honestly, he’s not wrong.
More on Screen Realm:
June’s long-running love triangle with Luke and Nick (Max Minghella) isn’t going away quietly. Nick, despite his own personal disasters, is still fighting for June, putting everything—and everyone—at risk. Meanwhile, Moira (Samira Wiley) joins the growing resistance, and Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) faces the inevitable consequences of his part in building Gilead’s oppressive regime.
Serena’s Back in Gilead… and Getting Married?
One of the trailer’s most surprising moments comes courtesy of Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski), who’s returned to Gilead. Not only that, but she’s walking down the aisle in a pale blue dress, surrounded by handmaids. Later, we see Josh Charles’ new character sweep her up in his arms—her new husband, apparently. Given Serena’s past, it’s anyone’s guess whether this is a strategic move or another step toward her downfall.
The handmaids are also taking matters into their own hands—literally. Armed and ready for war, they look prepared to kill anyone standing in their way. Even Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) seems to realise things are spiralling, muttering darkly that June is at the heart of it all.
Who’s Returning for The Handmaid’s Tale Final Season?
The season six cast includes Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ann Dowd, O.T. Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger, Ever Carradine, and new series regular Josh Charles. Alexis Bledel (Emily) won’t be returning, having stepped away from the series after season five.
Behind the scenes, Elisabeth Moss directs four episodes this season, including the finale. Bruce Miller remains as writer and executive producer but has handed over showrunner duties to Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang.
