The Housemaid sequel has landed another big name. Kirsten Dunst is officially joining The Housemaid’s Secret, giving Lionsgate’s fast-moving follow-up a serious boost as Sydney Sweeney returns for another round of domestic secrets and locked doors.
The new film is based on Freida McFadden’s second book, The Housemaid’s Secret, which picks up Millie’s (Sweeney) story with a fresh job and, naturally, a fresh nightmare. This time, she takes a housekeeping job for a woman she’s never allowed to see, only to find herself pulled into yet another web of buried truths and increasingly dangerous revelations.

Deadline revealed the casting news, with Dunst joining a sequel that already has several returning names locked in. Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Bridesmaids) is back in the director’s chair, Rebecca Sonnenshine is again writing the screenplay, and Michele Morrone will reprise his role as Enzo. Producers Todd Lieberman, Feig and Laura Fischer, plus Sweeney through her Fifty-Fifty Films banner, are also returning for the next chapter.
The film’s official Instagram account has also posted an image of a passage from the novel while tagging Dunst, highlighting the line: “I would prefer if you refer to me as Mrs. Garrick.”

Lionsgate is understandably not dragging its feet here. The Housemaid became one of 2025’s major box office successes, topping US$395 million worldwide from a reported budget of US$35 million.
Following recent turns in Civil War and Roofman, Dunst will soon be seen in The Entertainment System Is Down from filmmaker Ruben Östlund (Triangle of Sadness, The Square) and has also joined the sequel to A Minecraft Movie.
