‘The Inbetweeners 3’ Officially Happening at Netflix with Original Cast Returning

Simon’s little yellow Fiat has somehow survived. More remarkably, all four lads are climbing back inside it. Netflix has officially confirmed The Inbetweeners 3, with Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas all returning more than a decade after their last big-screen disaster. Production is already underway in the UK, and Netflix has released a very familiar first teaser to mark the occasion. Watch the announcement video above and get the details below.

The Boys Are Back, and So Is Simon’s Car

Netflix’s teaser wisely keeps things simple. We don’t even see the gang’s faces at first, with the teaser instead building towards the reveal of an old friend: Simon’s battered yellow Fiat Cinquecento.

Simon Bird’s Will McKenzie, James Buckley’s Jay Cartwright, Blake Harrison’s Neil Sutherland and Joe Thomas’ Simon Cooper pile inside, only for the famously questionable car to refuse to start. “Ah, for fuck’s sake,” Simon mutters.

Eventually, the engine splutters into life and the lads drive away, with a large number three scrawled across the rear window. Jay also gets to christen the franchise’s new home in typically affectionate fashion: “Netflix wankers.”

All four actors are officially reprising their original roles, while series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are returning to write and direct.

“It’s been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we’re going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans,” Beesley and Morris said in Netflix’s announcement.

A Return 12 Years in the Making

The new film marks the first scripted Inbetweeners adventure since The Inbetweeners 2 arrived in 2014, taking Will, Simon and Neil to Australia after Jay claimed to be living an impossibly glamorous gap-year existence Down Under.

The franchise began with the hugely popular E4 sitcom, which ran for three series from 2008 to 2010 before making the leap to cinemas. The Inbetweeners Movie arrived in 2011, opening at No. 1 and, according to Netflix, breaking the then-record for a UK comedy’s opening weekend. Its 2014 sequel was another major box-office success.

There was also the 2019 retrospective special The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited, but that wasn’t a continuation of the characters’ story. A proper third film has remained the much bigger question.

And for years, another outing hardly looked guaranteed. The cast and creators regularly sounded cautious about returning to characters whose stupidity worked so well because they were teenagers and young adults. Bringing Jay Cartwright into middle age without simply having a grown man behave like a 17-year-old was always going to be a tricky proposition.

Apparently, Beesley and Morris have now found a way in.

What Do We Know About The Inbetweeners 3?

The road back became much clearer in October 2025, when rights holder Banijay UK struck a new deal with Beesley and Morris’ Fudge Park Productions that the company said “paves the way for the return of the hit comedy title.”

Reports gathered pace from there, with the four original leads eventually linked to a reunion feature for Netflix. Now, with filming underway, the third movie is properly happening.

Exactly what drags Will, Simon, Jay and Neil together again remains under wraps. Netflix hasn’t released a synopsis, and there’s no word yet on which familiar supporting players may return. The Guardian notes that the involvement of Emily Atack, who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe, and Emily Head, who played Carli D’Amato, is currently unknown.

There’s no release date yet, either.

Behind the scenes, Claire Jones is producing alongside Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Productions’ Mark Lesbirel. Beesley and Morris are also executive producing alongside Caroline Levy, Caroline Leddy, Phil Gilbert, Suzanne Knight, Tom Jordan, and Farhana Bhula.
