The trailer has arrived for The King’s Man, a prequel film that will look at the origins of the intelligence agency we got to know in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and its sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017).
It’s kind of caught us off guard. News broke a while ago that production would be starting on a Kingsman prequel, but then things went very quiet on this front since. The first trailer is now here, and it’s quite promising. As per the official logline, the film will follow one man must who must race against time to stop “a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions.”
Ralph Fiennes appears to be a key figure behind the first iteration of the Kingsman agency, which would years later have Harry Hart (Colin Firth) and Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin (Taron Egerton) among its agents. The cast includes Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou, and Charles Dance.
Franchise director Matthew Vaughn returns at the helm, having delivered a surprising crowd-pleasing hit with the first film and a follow-up that was met with somewhat mixed reactions. Fingers firmly crossed for what he has in store here. As first as first teaser trailers go, it’s looking good.
The King’s Man will be arriving in Australia on February 13 and hitting the US on February 14, 2020.
