HBO has unveiled the official trailer for the seventh and final episode of The Last of Us Season 2, teasing what looks like action-packed, emotionally charged finale. Take a look above.
This season’s penultimate chapter brought back Pedro Pascal’s Joel in a deeply affecting flashback episode, tracing the deterioration of his relationship with Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The final moments gave us one of the show’s most moving moments yet: Joel confessing to Ellie that she was the cure and that he had killed the Fireflies to save her.

In contrast to the slower, more intimate pace of Episode 6, the trailer for the finale signals a ramp-up in scale and intensity. We get glimpses of Jesse (Young Mazino) and Ellie being shot at as they navigate Seattle’s ravaged streets, Isaac (Jeffrey Wright) leading a WLF unit, and Ellie captured by the fanatical Seraphites. Dina (Isabela Merced), meanwhile, is seen tearfully staring at Jesse, in a brief but striking shot that hints at an emotionally fraught turn.
There’s also a flash of Ellie crossing a stormy sea by boat—a shot that may carry more weight for those familiar with where this story could be headed.
One key location in the trailer: the theatre. While the teaser holds back on specifics, fans of the game will recognise this setting as the backdrop for a major moment – although it’s always possible that they’re going a different route here.
It’ll be interesting to see where we leave these characters by episode’s end. With Season 3 already greenlit, it’s almost guaranteed that we’re going to be left on a cliffhanger. Let’s hope it’s a good one.
