“It was kind of intimidating because it literally was like the improv Olympics.”
So says actor Michael Peña in this fun behind-the-scenes featurette released for The Lego Ninjago Movie, Warner Bros.’ latest Lego CG-animated feature following The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie.
The film follows young Master Builder Lloyd (Dave Franco), aka the Green Ninja, who teams up with fellow secret ninjas and Master Wu (Jackie Chan) to take on evil warlord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), aka The Worst Guy Ever. Further complicating matters is the fact that this supervillain happens to be Lloyd’s dad.
The voice cast also includes Olivia Munn as Lloyd’s mom, Koko, Fred Armisen as Cole, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Abbi Jacobson as Nya and Zach Woods as Zane. There’s some strong comedic talent in the line up, which certainly bodes well for the doses of ad-libbed humour it appears we’ll be getting here and there.
Both Lego big-screen features have been great, so here’s hoping The Lego Ninjago Movie continues the winning run. We’ll find out when the film arrives in Australia on September 21 and opens in the U.S. on September 22.
