‘The Life of Chuck’ Trailer: Mike Flanagan Directs Tom Hiddleston in Emotional Stephen King Tale

The official trailer has landed for The Life of Chuck, the next feature from filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House). And while it’s from Flanagan and it’s based on writing by Stephen King (a novella from King’s “If it Bleeds” collection of short stories), no, it’s not a horror film. In fact, it looks like it could be a beautiful tear-jerker! Trailer above and more info below.

Starring Tom Hiddleston as the titular Charles “Chuck” Krantz, the film looks to tackle a narrative that encompasses the ups, downs, and wonders of life. “When you look up at the night sky, it can tell you stuff about your future,” says Chuck’s grandfather, played by Mark Hamill. “It won’t lie to you. It’s pure that way. You might see a lot more than you want to.”

The trailer weaves together flashes of Chuck’s life through different stages — school hallways, music and dancing, moments of loss, and a community that seems deeply impacted by him. The trailer, thankfully, keeps narrative turns under wraps. It’s looking like an emotional, heart-warming film – fingers crossed it is.

The cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Mia Sara, Carl Lumbly, Matthew Lillard, and Nick Offerman as the narrator.

The Life of Chuck will be screening in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, before it opens in select U.S. cinemas on June 6th, followed by a wider U.S. release on June 13th. The film will open in Australian cinemas on August 21st.
