The phenomenal animated 1993 animated film is certainly a hard one to follow up, but filmmaker Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book) could be the man to do it well. The new trailer below unveils a lot of gorgeous-looking new footage and offers up snippets of Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons in the original film) and James Earl Jones rightfully back as Mufasa. Hans Zimmer’s touched up his wonderful original score, and yeah, it still works a treat. Rousing stuff all round so far; fingers crossed this one delivers.
The Lion King, also featuring the voice of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon and John Oliver as Zazu, opens in Australian cinemas on July 17 and hits the US on July 19.
