Glover, aka Childish Gambino, and Beyoncé sing the Oscar-winning track “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” as Simba and Nala, respectively, in the new film, which comes from director Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book). The 45-second promo aims for the nostalgia notes, particularly with Simba and Mufasa’s “in the stars” scene – with James Earl Jones back as Mufasa. The original film remains one of Disney’s greatest animated features, and is this writer’s favourite of their animated catalogue, so fingers firmly crossed for this.
The Lion King, also featuring voice work from Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rifiki, The Lion King opens in Australian cinemas on July 17 and U.S. cinemas on July 19.
