Australia: To celebrate the release of The Moogai, an intense new Aussie horror film, we’re excited to be giving away 10 double passes to catch this chilling experience on the big screen! Mark the date: The Moogai opens in cinemas on Halloween, October 31st.
From the producers behind hits like The Babadook and Talk to Me, The Moogai is a First Nations psychological horror that promises an unsettling blend of supernatural thrills and deeply resonant storytelling. Directed by Jon Bell, making his feature debut, the film builds upon his acclaimed short of the same name, exploring the horror genre through an Indigenous Australian lens. Bell’s film interweaves elements of psychological tension and traditional storytelling to address the haunting legacy of the Stolen Generation, with “Moogai” being a term in Indigenous Australian culture often associated with the “boogeyman.”
Starring Shari Sebbens (The Sapphires, Thor: Love and Thunder) and Meyne Wyatt (We Are Still Here, Mystery Road), The Moogai tells the story of Sarah and Fergus, a young Aboriginal couple who, after the birth of their second child, encounter a series of sinister events. As Sarah becomes convinced that a malevolent spirit is intent on taking her baby, Fergus is torn between belief in her fears and his growing concern for her mental wellbeing. The film’s eerie plot raises the stakes as the couple battles with questions of reality, identity, and an ever-present threat.
