‘The Nevers’ Trailer: Victorian Women Are Given Superpowers in Joss Whedon’s HBO Series

Check out the teaser trailer that’s been released for The Nevers, the new series from Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Firefly creator and Avengers director Joss Whedon.

To be clear, Whedon did create and develop the show but was on board until November 2020, when he left citing exhaustion. British screenwriter Philippa Goslett (Mary Magdalene, How to Talk to Girls at Parties) was announced as the new showrunner a few days ago.

Here’s your first proper look at the six-episode HBO series, which is set in the latter years of the Victorian era in England and tells of what unfolds when the city is hit by the “Touched.” Mostly women are suddenly given abnormal abilities, ranging from the charming to the disturbing. As the trailer shows, they’re soon being ostracised and hunted by certain groups. Laura Donnell (Outlander) and Ann Skelly (Vikings) play two of these “touched” individuals who find themselves becoming the champions of this new underclass.

The Nevers, also starring James Norton, Tom Riley, Ann Skelly, Ben Chaplin, Nick Frost, Pip Torrens, and Rochelle Neil, among others, will premiere on HBO Max sometime in April. Foxtel will likely have it for Australia around the same time.
