Prime Video and the BBC have unveiled the first images from season 2 of The Night Manager, with Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman returning as Jonathan Pine and Angela Burr. Check out the images above and below, and read on for everything we know so far. Eight years on from that explosive finale, the series jumps to the present day and — for the first time — moves beyond John le Carré’s pages. Filming took place across the UK, Spain, Colombia and France.

What’s the setup this time?

Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston) has dialled things down as Alex Goodwin, a low-level MI6 officer quietly running a surveillance unit in London. Naturally, the quiet doesn’t last. A fleeting glimpse of a former Roper mercenary yanks him back into the field and straight towards Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva). The trail winds into a scheme involving arms and the training of a guerrilla force — the sort of operation where every handshake might be a gambit and trust is a luxury.

Who’s new?

Diego Calva (Babylon, Narcos: Mexico) steps in as Teddy, while Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six) plays Roxana Bolaños, a businesswoman reluctantly drawn into helping Pine slip inside Teddy’s operation. Indira Varma (Obsession, Obi-Wan Kenobi) joins as Mayra, Paul Chahidi (Wicked Little Letters, The Serpent Queen) as Basil, and Hayley Squires (Adult Material, Beau Is Afraid) as Sally.

Who’s back?

Alongside Hiddleston and Colman, season 1 stalwarts return: Alistair Petrie (Sex Education, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Sandy Langbourne, Douglas Hodge (Joker, Black Mirror) as Rex Mayhew, Michael Nardone (Traces, Rome) as Frisky, and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place, Honey Boy) as Daniel Roper.

Who’s making it?

Season 2 is created and executive produced by David Farr, based on characters created by John le Carré, with BAFTA winner Georgi Banks-Davies (I Hate Suzie, Paper Girls) directing every episode. The series hails from The Ink Factory in association with Character 7, Demarest Films and 127 Wall, with Spanish co-producer Nostromo Pictures.

Where will it stream?

In the UK, the new season will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Internationally (excluding the UK), it will stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. A specific launch date hasn’t been announced yet.

Previously on season 1

The six-part first series, directed by Susanne Bier and starring Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Colman, Tom Hollander, David Harewood and Elizabeth Debicki, debuted on BBC One on February 21, 2016, and sold to more than 180 countries.

The plot followed Cairo hotel night manager and former British soldier Pine, recruited by Burr to infiltrate the empire of arms dealer Richard Roper (Laurie).

The show earned 36 nominations and 11 wins, including two Primetime Emmys (for director Bier and composer Victor Reyes) and three Golden Globes (Hiddleston, Colman, Laurie).

An Indian adaptation premiered in 2023, starring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sobhita Dhulipala.
