Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer for The Night Manager season 2, and it’s clear that Tom Hiddleston‘s Jonathan Pine is not getting a quiet life, no matter how hard he tries. Nearly a decade after the series first left him dangling in the grey zone between hero and ghost, the ex-intelligence operative and one luxury hotel night manager is back under a new name, staring down a fresh conspiracy. Jonathan Pine is pulled out of cover — again
Season 2 picks up with Pine living as Alex Goodwin, a low-level MI6 officer running what looks like the safest kind of assignment: a sleepy surveillance unit in London, the sort of job you take when you’re trying to disappear in plain sight. One chance sighting of a familiar mercenary from Richard Roper’s old orbit becomes the spark that drags Pine back into the world he thought he’d outrun — and straight into a violent run-in with a new player, Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva).

The deeper Pine goes, the less this feels like a single-target mission. Enter Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a reluctant fixer who helps Pine slip inside Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. And naturally, the closer he gets to the truth, the harder it becomes to tell who’s using who.
Olivia Colman is back as spymaster Angela Burr, once again nudging Pine toward the line of fire with the kind of calm authority that makes danger feel like admin. The new season also adds Indira Varma, Paul Chahidi, and Hayley Squires, while Alistair Petrie, Douglas Hodge, Michael Nardone, and Noah Jupe reprise their roles from the original run.
Hiddleston’s “unfinished business”
Speaking to the BBC about returning, Hiddleston said, “I think I felt I had unfinished business with this role. I found making the first series incredibly fulfilling, I found it really stimulating. It was about the world as we find it, but it was also about fascinating, mysterious characters with very deep, complex inner lives.” He also pointed to what keeps pulling him back to the material, noting, “[Author] John le Carré is the great specialist at combining those two things – political reality and personal complexity – within a great spy story, a sense of thrill and mystery.”
He went further into Pine’s identity (or lack of one), adding, “Le Carré once wondered: ‘there is no centre to a human being’. Where is the centre of Jonathan Pine? There is one – I believe – but how are different aspects of him expressed through these different personae? Each persona expresses different dimensions of Pine’s inner life.” And for anyone wondering whether this is just a nostalgia lap, Hiddleston insists it isn’t: “it’s very exciting to have arrived at this juncture where we have made something new… this is something completely fresh and original.”
Colman, meanwhile, summed up the time jump in the most Angela Burr way possible, saying, “It’s been lovely going back to Angela Burr after nine years. I know it’s nine years because I was very pregnant the last time round, and that baby bump is now nine years old. It’s been lovely to come back and to get to see the old team.”
Based on characters created by John le Carré, season 2 is created and executive produced by David Farr and directed in full by Georgi Banks-Davies (Kaos, I Hate Suzie).
The Night Manager season 2 release date
The series premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK on January 1, 2026. Internationally, including the U.S. and Australia, Prime Video rolls out the first three episodes on January 11, followed by weekly instalments every Sunday through the February 1 finale.
