A new trailer has dropped for The Night of, the upcoming HBO limited series starring John Turturro.

This crime-thriller tells of the layers that make up the investigation of a NYC murder case, which is made all the more complex with the cultural and political overtones surrounding the situation.

The trailer below offers up a great tease, hinting at the potent tone and the various twists and turns we’re to expect going in. It seems to be somewhat in the vein of True Detective‘s first season, so best believe you can count us in.

The limited series, based on the Peter Moffat-created BBC series Criminal Justice, comes from Richard Price and Steven Zaillian, the latter of which won an Oscar for his work writing Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List and who directs 8 of The Night of‘s 9 episodes.

The Night of, also starring Riz Ahmad, Syam M. Lafi, and Michael K. Williams, premieres on July 10 (U.S. date).
