Netflix Cancels ‘The OA’ After Two Seasons

Very bad news for fans of Netflix series The OA.

The streaming giant has decided not to renew the mystery-drama series, from Zal Batmanglij and star Brit Marling, for a third season. Season 2 was released to acclaim on March 22.

“We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters of The OA, and are grateful to Brit and Zal for sharing their audacious vision and for realizing it through their incredible artistry,” Cindy Holland, Netflix VP of Original Content, said in a statement . “We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”

Marling released a poignant statement on social media, sharing her reaction upon hearing the news. “Zal and I are deeply sad not to finish this story,” Marling wrote. “The first time I heard the news I had a good cry.”

Featuring Brad Pitt among its executive producers, The OA had its first season arrive on Netflix back in 2016. The series saw Marling playing Prairie, a young woman who mysteriously returns home after being missing for seven years. She was blind when she left; now she can see. The cast included Jason Isaacs, Emory Cohen, Scott Wilson, Alice Krige, Patrick Gibson, Brandon Meyer, Brandon Perea, Ian Alexander, Will Brill and Phyllis Smith.
