Netflix series The Perfect Couple is reportedly set to return for a second season—this time with a brand-new mystery and an entirely different family under the microscope.

A New Family, a New Scandal

According to multiple outlets (with The Ankler first breaking the news and The Hollywood Reporter confirming), Netflix is developing The Perfect Couple into an anthology series. While the first season centred on the wealthy and scandal-plagued Winbury family, the follow-up is expected to introduce another moneyed clan to stir the waters. The picturesque, drama-laden setting of Nantucket isn’t going anywhere, but the story—and the cast—are getting a full refresh.

Another Elin Hilderbrand Novel

Season 2 will adapt Swan Song, the 2024 novel from The Perfect Couple author Elin Hilderbrand. The story follows the Richardsons, an enigmatic and extravagantly rich family who swoop into Nantucket after buying a $22 million summer home. It doesn’t take long before they’re throwing wild parties, charming the locals, and showing off their yachts (plural). But the glamour begins to fade after their house burns down and a key member of their staff mysteriously vanishes. What unfolds is a twisting tale of secrets and suspicion among the island’s well-heeled elite.

A New Showrunner Steps In

Joanna Calo, co-showrunner of hit FX series The Bear, will be taking over the reins for season 2. She’ll be adapting Swan Song for Netflix and serving as showrunner, stepping in for Jenna Lamia, who handled duties on the first season.

While Nicole Kidman won’t be returning in front of the camera (as far as we know), she’s back on board as an executive producer. She’s joined once again by her Blossom Films partner Per Saari, alongside Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, returning director Susanne Bier, and Hend Baghdady.

No Surprise: Season 1 Was a Hit

Netflix keeping The Perfect Couple alive makes sense when you look at the numbers. The six-episode murder mystery, which dropped in September 2024, was one of the platform’s biggest shows in the latter half of the year. It ranked second in views (measured by watch time divided by running time) and fifth in total hours watched on Netflix’s global charts. There were already signs the streamer wasn’t finished with the property—Netflix had been listing the show as “Season 1” in its Top 10 data, rather than marketing it as a limited series.

Casting and Release Details Still Under Wraps

So far, there’s no word on who might be stepping into the world of The Perfect Couple next. Season 1 boasted a heavyweight ensemble that included Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Meghann Fahy, Dakota Fanning, and Billy Howle. If Netflix aims to match that A-list energy, expect another star-studded cast announcement down the track.

As for when season 2 will arrive? No timeline has been revealed just yet. Stay tuned – we’ll keep you up to date as the new season comes together!
