The Plot:
Adapted from Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling novel, The Perfect Couple centres on Amelia Sacks (played by Bad Sisters star Eve Hewson), a bride marrying into the fabulously wealthy Winbury family on Nantucket. However, what was supposed to be the perfect high-society wedding, overseen by the groom’s glamorous mother Greer Garrison Winbury (played by Nicole Kidman, also among the show’s executive producers), takes a dark turn when a body washes up on the beach. The idyllic event quickly unravels into a tense murder mystery as everyone, from the family to the wedding guests, becomes a suspect.
The Cast:
The limited series features a cast that includes Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) as the patriarch Tag Winbury, Dakota Fanning (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as Abby Winbury, and Billy Howle (The Serpent) as the groom, Benji Winbury. Adding to the ensemble are Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus), Ishaan Khatter (A Suitable Boy), Jack Reynor (Midsommar), and Mia Isaac (Not Okay).
The Creative Team:
Creator and showrunner is Jenna Lamia, whose writing credits include Good Girls and Resident Alien. The series is directed by Susanne Bier, an Emmy-winning filmmaker known for helming The Night Manager, In a Better World, Bird Box, and another Kidman-led mini-series, 2020’s The Undoing, which also starred Hugh Grant.
The Perfect Couple is produced by 21 Laps Entertainment, The Jackal Group, and Blossom Films, with Shawn Levy (Stranger Things), Gail Berman, Bier, Kidman, and Lamia among the team of executive producers.
The Location:
The series was primarily filmed in Chatham, Massachusetts, with careful attention paid to preserving the essence of Nantucket. Showrunner Jenna Lamia, alongside Bier, aimed to capture the island’s unique charm and wealth, blending authenticity with a luxurious aesthetic.
“Capturing Nantucket would’ve been important for any show set in there, but for an Elin Hilderbrand adaptation, it’s a character,” Lamia said in an interview with Netflix site Tudum. “It’s a main character. So we had to do it justice.”
