Jon Bernthal reprises his role as deeply troubled vigilante Frank Castle, whose life on the road following the events of season 1 hits major speed humps when he gets involved in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham) and enemies close in. Not only is Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) back, with facial scars to show for his bloody season 1 finale showdown with Frank, there’s also a new nemesis in the form of Christian Fundamentalist John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart).
It’s an appropriately in-your-face look at what’s in store in the second chapter. It certainly looks like an action-packed, bloody outing, although it will be interesting to see just what other themes the series will tackle – if any – following season one’s focus on PTSD and grief. We can’t wait.
The Punisher season 2, also starring Amber Rose Revah, Jason R. Moore, and Floriana Lima, will be hitting Netflix on January 18.
Netflix’s official synopsis for The Punisher season 2:
Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as “The Punisher.”
