Take a look above at the official trailer that’s arrived for The Return, a dramatic retelling of Homer’s Odyssey led by Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.
The film has Fiennes playing a weathered and battle-worn Odysseus, stepping back onto Ithacan soil after two decades away, only to find his island home in disarray. His wife, Penelope (Binoche), is under siege in her own home by a throng of suitors, each more desperate than the last to claim her hand—and the throne. Meanwhile, Telemachus (played by Charlie Plummer), Odysseus’ son, faces threats to his life from those eager to eliminate him from their path to power. Gone is the hero of legend; Odysseus appears in the trailer as a scarred and weary figure who must confront his past and rediscover his strength to reclaim all that he has lost.
The film is directed by Uberto Pasolini, making his fourth feature as director following Machan (2008), Still Life (2013), and Nowhere Special (2020). Pasolini wrote the adaptation with John Collee (Monkey Man, Lee) and the late Edward Bond (Walkabout).
The Return is set to open in U.S. cinemas on 6 December 2024.
