20th Century Fox has unveiled a gritty new trailer for The Revenant, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s incredible-looking follow-up to the Best Picture-winning Birdman.
Based on real-life events, The Revenant tells the story of Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), an 1820s frontiersman who sets out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling. Tom Hardy stars as one of those who wronged Glass.
The big new trailer reveals a little more about the plot, dropping a bit of knowledge regarding another key reason why Glass is out for revenge. The films looks absolutely incredible, with the double-win that is Leo and Hardy, Iñárritu’s unique eye looking to work wonders in a reportedly very difficult shoot, and Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Children of Men, The Tree of Life, Gravity, Birdman) driving home some stunning moments. It’s getting harder and harder to be objective with this one. Take our money.
The Revenant, also starring Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter, will be hitting the U.S. in a limited run on December 25 before opening wide in January. The film hits Australia on January 7.
