Alejandro G. Iñárritu follows up his Oscar-winning picture Birdman with The Revenant, a dramatic story of vengeance and redemption starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, and we’ve got the first impressive trailer for you to watch right here.
The Revenant, an adaptation of Michael Punke’s true story-inspired book, tells the story of a frontiersman, Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), who in the 1820s set out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling.
Iñárritu (Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful) is one of the most original directors out there. Though his films are met with varying levels of success, they’re brought forth from a unique eye, and The Revenant looks downright brilliant.
The grit is tangible, the sequences looks jaw-droppingly well executed, the double win that is DiCaprio and Hardy is awesome. Birdman‘s appeal was in large part due to the incredible cinematography from the master Emmanuel Lubezki (Children of Men, The Tree of Life, Gravity), so his reuniting with Iñárritu here is just another factor making this one of our most anticipated films.
The Revenant, also starring Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter, and Paul Anderson, hits U.S. cinemas on December 25.
