New ‘The Stand’ Trailer: Alexander Skarsgård is The Dark Man in Upcoming Stephen King Series

CBS All Access

Take a look at a big new trailer CBS All Access has dropped for The Stand, an upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King’s epic dark fantasy novel.

The plot is set in a post-apocalyptic world that’s been ravaged by a man-made plague. A battle of Biblical proportions begins to rise up between the survivors – among them, 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg). Alexander Skarsgård plays classic King character Randall Flagg, aka the Dark Man, a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers.

There’s no shortage of King adaptations these days – and it’s been a mixed output. Hopefully King’s beloved The Stand, which was previously adapted into a 1994 mini-series starring Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald, gets a strong screen translation here.

The show was written by Ben Cavell and Josh Boone, the latter (director of The Fault in Our Stars and The New Mutants) also directing all nine episodes. The cast includes James Marsden, Amber Heard, Whoopi Goldberg, Odessa Young, Henry Zaga, Nat Wolff and Heather Graham, among others.

The Stand premieres on CBS All Access on December 17th.
