The bullet-riddled trailer has arrived for The Tax Collector, the latest film from End of Watch and Suicide Squad director David Ayer.
Reuniting Shia LaBeouf with his Fury helmer, the film follows two L.A. “tax collectors” (played by LaBeouf and Bobby Soto) who collect the gang profit cuts owing to crime lord Wizard. Their already dangerous line of work takes an even deadlier turn when one of Wizard’s old rivals returns from Mexico.
I’ve long been a fan of Ayer’s work – particularly his gritty street stories, such as Training Day (he wrote the script), Hard Times, Street Kings, End of Watch, and even Bright, to an extent. You could say Suicide Squad was a misstep, although Ayer maintains that the resulting film was far from what he had envisioned.
Looking forward to seeing The Tax Collector, which again looks to have LaBeouf showing off his ever-expanding versatility. Also starring Cinthya Carmona, George Lopez, Jay Reeves and Lana Parrilla, the film hits limited U.S. cinema release and is released On Demand and Digital on August 7th.
