Marvel’s First ‘Thunderbolts*’ Trailer: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour and More in the MCU’s New Team

Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the first teaser trailer and poster for its upcoming film Thunderbolts* (yes, the asterisk is part of the title), signaling the assembly of an unconventional team within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Take a look at the trailer above and the poster below.

The teaser features Florence Pugh‘s return as Yelena Belova, the skilled but troubled assassin introduced in Black Widow. “There’s something wrong with me,” Belova says. “An emptiness. I’m just drifting and I don’t have purpose.” Well, things are about to take a turn. She soon finds herself collaborating with a group of unexpected allies.

The film brings back several familiar faces: Sebastian Stan reprises his role as Bucky Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier; David Harbour returns as Alexei Shostakov, the Red Guardian; Wyatt Russell is back as John Walker, previously U.S. Agent; Olga Kurylenko appears again as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster; Hannah John-Kamen continues her role as Ava Starr, known as Ghost; and Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns as the enigmatic Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

The cast also includes Lewis Pullman, playing Bob, aka the superhero Sentry, who’s making his live-action debut here. There’s also Geraldine Viswanathan, playing Mel, de Fontaine’s assistant.

The film is directed by Jake Schreier, whose credits include Robot & Frank, Paper Towns, and six episodes of Netflix series Beef. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, of course, is producer, with a team of executive producers that include Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez, and Scarlett Johansson. This marks Johansson’s continued involvement with Marvel beyond her on-screen performances.

Thunderbolts*, the 36th film in the MCU and the final film in Stage Five, will be released in Australian cinemas on May 1st and US cinemas on May 2nd, 2025.
