“F**k Batman.”
Yep, this DC superhero series really ain’t one for the kiddies, and the first trailer really wants you to know that. Take a look at the Comic-Con trailer that’s just arrived for Titans, an upcoming series that brings DC’s Young Titans to the small-screen in live-action form. Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites is Nightwing, formerly Batman’s first Robin, and he’s pissed. He’s also on the road to leading a team of young superheroes.
The characters here include Koriand’r / Starfire (played by Anna Diop), Rachel Roth / Raven (Teagan Croft), Garfield “Gar” Logan / Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Hank Hall / Hawk (Alan Ritchson), and Dawn Granger / Dove (Minka Kelly), among others.
It’s a little hard to know what to expect here, at least in terms of overall quality. The trailer offers up a bit of a mixed bag, with some cheesiness, some slick action, and some interesting takes on the characters (which may polarise Teen Titan fans). The level of brutality is somewhat surprising, which of course doesn’t mean anything if the show’s writing and the characterisation end up being poor. Fingers crossed this is one that not only drives people to DC’s new direct-to-consumer digital service, but keeps them there. Give us your thoughts in the comments section below!
For those who hadn’t heard, DC has launched a subscription service that includes shows, comics and more, and Titans is their first big series on the line-up. Live-action Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing shows are slated for 2019.
